About Menorca Cruising School

At Menorca Cruising School we specialise in RYA and Pre- Flotilla training courses for beginners, families and novice skippers. Mahon Harbour provides 3.5 miles of sheltered waters which are perfect for getting a feel for the yacht. We can then set out to explore more than 40 sheltered coves around the island's 80 miles circumference. We are very used to mixed ability teaching and partners with differing abilities can take different courses on the same yacht.

Menorca Cruising School
Menorca Cruising School was the first RYA sailing school to be established in the Mediterranean. Mahon Harbour is the perfect base for non-tidal sailing training, offering good weather and excellent sailing for both beginners and experienced sailors.

Principal - John Davies
In January 2007 John Davies took over as Principal of Menorca Cruising School. John has been resident on Menorca for 9 years. He is very conscious that any school is only as good as its instructors. To this end, MCS instructors are carefully selected to ensure they have the most important qualities of patience, good humour and a professional outlook. They are chosen from experienced backgrounds which bring a highly professional approach to the training.

This year we are very pleased to welcome Richard and Michelle Howell to Menorca to lead our team of sailing instructors in 2011.

Richard enjoyed a long and successful career in the police service before establishing Howell Sailing with his wife Michelle, who is a Director and Yachtmaster Cruising Instructor.

Richard has over 60,000 miles experience skippering yachts and still enjoys delivering yachts or providing sailing instruction and skippered charters, whenever possible. He continues to conduct Yachtmaster Examinations on behalf of the RYA/MCA throughout UK, the Mediterranean, and the Canary Islands. His popular Yachtmaster Preparation Courses continue to be in demand by those seeking to pass their Yachtmaster Exam. He is a Dinghy, Powerboat, First Aid and VHF/SRC Radio Instructor.

Michelle Howell

Michelle also enjoyed a long and successful career in the police service before becoming a Yachtmaster Cruising Instructor. She is a veteran of UK and Mediterranean waters and enjoys passing on her experience to students, whether on formal courses, family charters, or yacht deliveries.
